Crunch Berriez: A Strain That Named Itself

How years of connected keeper hunts, a midnight U-Haul rescue & unmistakable cereal terps helped turn Crunch Berriez into a worldwide clone.

Before FIYA

The name Crunch Berries existed before FIYA Farmer’s version.

Exotic Genetix had previously released a Blueberry × Triple OG strain under that name, while an unrelated Oopz All Berryz version appeared by 2021.

What separated FIYA Farmer’s later cut was how closely the flavor matched the name. Once the winning phenotype emerged, the connection was immediate.

Building the Gas Side

By 2022, FIYA Farmer had selected Gassius Clay, a cross of [Gelonade × Do-Si-Dos] × Illmatic, with Quesada, Backpack Boyz & 5Points LA.

Crossing Gassius Clay with Billy Kimber OG produced Kimber Slice, combining purple Chem influence with old-school OG gas.

That work became part of the genetic foundation behind Crunch Berriez.

Sweet Retreat #5

FIYA Farmer & Doja Pak also hunted Zangria × Illmatic, selecting a standout phenotype known as Sweet Retreat #5.

The cut immediately stood out for its distinctive dessert-forward terpene profile.

Sweet Retreat #5 later became a parent in several projects, including Fun Dip, D•Lish, Sugar Factory & Crunch Berriez.

The Week 5 Rescue

The original Crunch Berriez pheno hunt nearly disappeared before it was finished.

According to FIYA Farmer’s firsthand account, an unexpected property inspection arrived during week 5 of flower, leaving him with 2 choices: abandon the hunt or move everything immediately.

He chose the second.

A U-Haul was rented in the middle of the night, the plants were loaded up & the pheno hunt survived.

The Strain Names Itself

The winning cut delivered a combination of sugary berry cereal & gas terps.

FIYA Farmer said naming it was unusually easy because the aroma gave him the answer immediately. He described the smell as being unmistakably similar to Cap’n Crunch cereal.

Unlike strains that require weeks of brainstorming, this one effectively named itself.

2023–24: The Public Rollout

The earliest clear public listing identified for Crunch Berriez dates to March 11, 2023.

Its larger 2024 rollout brought together FIYA Farmer, Backpack Boyz, 5Points, Doja Pak & The Finest Farms.

The cereal-box packaging drew attention, while the flower itself received strong outside recognition.

An independent Leafly review scored Crunch Berriez 95/100, making it one of the publication’s highest-scoring flower reviews.

2025: The Clone Spreads

By 2025, the Crunch Berriez clone had moved well beyond its original California circle.

Growers around the world began bringing its cereal-forward terpene profile into their own markets.

As the cut spread internationally, Crunch Berriez also began winning awards in different regions.

Legacy

Crunch Berriez turned years of connected keeper hunts into a clone that made the work worthwhile.

Its lineage carries FIYA Farmer’s selection work through Gassius Clay, Kimber Slice & Sweet Retreat #5, while its survival story shows how close the hunt came to disappearing before the winning phenotype was even finished.

From small rooms and a midnight U-Haul move to major collaborations and gardens around the world, Crunch Berriez became a strain whose flavor, name & public rise all unfolded in front of the market.
