The Cookies Genetic Map: origins, cuts, crosses and related Cookies names - a Cookies bud

From Girl Scout Cookies to Gelato, Runtz and beyond, exploring the genetics, collaborations and breeders that helped shape modern cannabis.

How Big Is the Cookies Family Tree?

Few names have influenced modern cannabis quite like Girl Scout Cookies (GSC). What emerged from California’s Bay Area became one of the most recognizable genetic families in the industry, inspiring countless crosses, celebrated phenotypes and entirely new strain families.

But the Cookies story extends far beyond one strain or brand.

Our Cookies Family Tree explores 149 distinct names and related entries, tracing early roots, foundational cuts, breeding projects and modern collaborations.

The Cookies Genetic Map: complete categories and strain list - 149 strains, cuts and connections across 11 categories

From GSC to Gelato, Sherbert & Runtz

Early selections like Forum Cut, Thin Mint, Platinum Cookies and Animal Cookies helped establish the foundation for generations of breeding.

From there, genetics associated with the broader Cookies family contributed to some of cannabis’s most recognizable names, including Sunset Sherbert, Gelato, Biscotti, Wedding Cake, Do-Si-Dos and Runtz.

Projects involving Powerzzzup and Cookies also introduced memorable releases like Gary Payton, Cereal Milk, Georgia Pie, London Poundcake and many others.

As breeders continued experimenting, the genetic landscape expanded into dessert, candy, mint, fruit and Chem-influenced varieties.

The People Behind the Cookies Movement

The Cookies legacy isn’t just about genetics. It’s also about the people who helped bring those genetics into the spotlight.

Berner, the Cookie Fam, and influential figures like the late Delvin, aka Cookie Monster (@thecookiemonster415), and Seer (@seerious415) played important roles in pushing the Cookies movement forward.

Both Cookie Monster and Seer have since passed away, but their influence remains part of the movement’s history. Their contributions helped shape a culture that extended far beyond the Bay Area, inspiring growers, breeders and cannabis enthusiasts around the world.

Their legacy deserves recognition alongside the genetics and people who helped build Cookies into a global phenomenon.

A Family Tree That’s Still Growing

Modern names like Permanent Marker, Cap Junky, Gastro Pop and Blue Lobster demonstrate how far cannabis breeding has evolved.

Not every strain on our map is a direct GSC descendant. Some represent shared ancestry, influential parent genetics, collaborations or connections to the larger Cookies breeding movement.

Strain histories can also be complicated. Different cuts may share names, parentage can be disputed, and some early genetics were never fully documented.

Did We Miss Something?

This family tree is a working reference, not a definitive genetic pedigree. With so many breeders, regional selections and underground cuts contributing to the story, there’s always more to uncover.

Major respect to Berner, the Cookie Fam, the late Cookie Monster and Seer, and the countless breeders, growers and cultivators whose contributions helped build this genetic legacy.

We know we’ve probably missed some favorites.

What Cookies-related strains, cuts or genetic connections should we add next?
