The story of Kush House spans two cities, two creative industries and several attempts to build a lasting cultural home.

Summer 2008: The Beginning at HC Remedies

Kush House Records was founded in the summer of 2008. Its first location was the back of HC Remedies, a dispensary in Woodland Hills, in California's San Fernando Valley. The original account identifies four founding figures: Twin brothers George, known as Vader Global, and Lou, also associated with Lou Vader and Loudogg KH. Big Hallissey. Dr. K, associated in the caption with Kushstock and Bubba Nasty. Their goal was to establish themselves in rap music. The project was built around two central interests: Hip-hop and cannabis. The founders wanted to create music that reflected their lives rather than separate cannabis culture from their artistic work.

The Garage Studio Years

The earliest Kush House recordings were produced under limited conditions. According to the original account, the team worked with: A garage studio. A small group of local artists. Limited resources. A shared ambition to develop the label. The arrangement allowed them to begin recording, but the founders wanted a more complete professional environment. Their next objective was to establish a dedicated studio.

2009: Kush House Studio Opens

By 2009, Kush House had opened a fully equipped studio. The move gave the group a permanent production space and expanded its recording capabilities. The original account identifies three projects from this period: Kush House Volume 1. Kush House Volume 2. Kush House Volume 3. Together, the releases helped establish the label's identity in the underground music scene. The studio became the center of the group's creative work.

2011: Dab City and the BHO Era

In 2011, cannabis concentrate culture was changing rapidly. The original account identifies the rise of BHO, or butane hash oil, as an important cultural moment. Kush House responded with a track titled: Dab City. The caption describes the song as a cult anthem. It connected the label to the emerging relationship between hip-hop and cannabis extracts. For Kush House, the release reinforced the original idea behind the project: music and cannabis culture could develop together.

2019: The First Barcelona Social Club Attempt

The original account identifies 2019 as the first attempt to establish a Kush House-related social club in Barcelona. Three people participated: Lou. Pete Mamakos. Kay, associated with The Honeycomb Extracts. Together, they purchased half of a social club. The partnership eventually collapsed. Although the concept of establishing a social lounge was already taking shape, the original account says the arrangement ended without producing the long-term project the participants envisioned.

2021: Lou's Arrest in Mexico

In 2021, Kush House experienced a major personal and operational setback. According to the original account, Lou was arrested in Mexico. The caption states that he received a sentence of 6.8 years, with 3.8 years served. These figures are retained as reported in the original caption. Lou's absence affected the organization. George shut down Kush House Studio, and the original account describes the project as fading from active operations for a period.

2022: George Returns to Barcelona

In 2022, George renewed the effort to establish Kush House in Barcelona. This time, he worked with Pete Mamakos and Kay. Unlike the 2019 arrangement, the new objective was to own the entire lounge rather than half of an existing club. The three partners searched for a suitable location. They eventually found a property near the beach. The setting offered an opportunity to build a social space around the project's original cultural identity.

Choosing the Kush House Name

The three partners initially had different ideas for the new lounge's name. According to the original account, George insisted on retaining: Kush House. The name connected the Barcelona project to the original 2008 music label and its California history. Rather than introduce an unrelated identity, George wanted the lounge to continue the legacy of the earlier project.

Gumzzy and the New Logo

The partners worked with graphic artist Gumzzy to create a new visual identity for the lounge. The original account describes the resulting logo as bold. The founders initially treated the relaunch as an experiment. Their plan was to test the Kush House name and concept for six months. If the brand connected with Barcelona's cannabis community, they would continue developing it. According to the caption, the response exceeded their expectations.

August 23, 2025: Three Years in Barcelona

On August 23, 2025, Kush House celebrated its third anniversary in Barcelona. The milestone marked three years since the 2022 relaunch. The original account describes the lounge as a gathering place built around: Cannabis. Community. Music. Culture. Its beachside Barcelona location. The anniversary also connected the new project to its much earlier beginnings in Woodland Hills.

Legacy: From the San Fernando Valley to Barcelona

Kush House began in the summer of 2008 behind HC Remedies in Woodland Hills, founded by George, Lou, Big Hallissey and Dr. K. Its early development included a garage studio, a dedicated recording facility opened in 2009, three Kush House compilations, the 2011 Dab City track, and the later Barcelona social club attempts. The attempt to establish a Barcelona social club in 2019 ended after the partnership involving Lou, Pete and Kay collapsed. Lou's 2021 arrest in Mexico and George's decision to close the California studio marked another setback. In 2022, George returned to Barcelona with Pete and Kay, established a new lounge near the beach and retained the Kush House name. By August 23, 2025, the lounge had reached its third anniversary. The original nuggnotes account presents Kush House as a project that survived changes in location, leadership and business model, built around cannabis, community, music and culture.
