How a Sin City Seeds lineage, a freakishly vigorous male, a collaborative pheno hunt & a network of growers helped turn Toad Venom into one of the most recognizable modern cannabis cuts.
The Sin City Roots
The story of Toad Venom traces back to genetics from Sin City Seeds.
The important distinction is the lineage: Sin Mint Cookie × Zkittlez, not simply Sin Mint Cookies. That line would eventually provide the selected male used to create Toad Venom.
The first major spark reportedly came in Battleground, Washington, where standout phenotypes showed enough potential to convince the people involved that the genetics deserved further work.
The Flight Home
After seeing those plants, Jake, owner then associated with West Coast Connoisseurs, flew home during the COVID era carrying about 4 grams of flower.
According to Jake’s account, he opened the overhead bin during the flight and the smell escaped so aggressively that a flight attendant threatened to ground the plane.
For Jake, that moment reinforced what he already suspected: the genetics were special.
Building the Cross
The breeding work developed through a collaborative hunt involving Jake, 805 Has Fire, Ronin Seeds & Cannapy Builders.
805 worked the males, while Jake’s team through Ronin Seeds, alongside Cannapy Builders, contributed females to the breeding program.
Ronin Seeds was not built as a traditional retail seed company. Its purpose was to supply selected genetics to cultivation partners rather than sell seeds directly to the public.
The Male That Survived
During a move, the male plants involved in the project were reportedly snapped in half.
One recovered with unusual vigor.
That survivor became the selected Sinmint F1 male, the pollinator that ultimately pushed the Toad Venom project forward.
By late 2020, seeds had been produced from Animal Face × the selected Sinmintz male.
At that stage, the line did not yet have the name Toad Venom. It was primarily identified by its parentage.
The Pheno Hunt
In 2021, seeds were distributed to trusted hunters.
Derrick Grows Fire hunted the line at The Green Dragon’s Cathedral City facility, selected a keeper and returned the chosen cut to Ronin.
Jake then took that selection into a cultivation project in Oklahoma, where the cut began proving itself outside the original hunt.
From a Sinful Animal to Toad Venom
According to Jake’s account, the name came from a simple question: “What’s a sinful animal?”
That conversation led the group to Toad Venom.
The cut reportedly appeared under that name in Oklahoma before the later Becky name became associated with it through Green Dragon.
When the Oklahoma partnership eventually broke down, Jake brought the cut back to Los Angeles.
Oregon Reaches the Recreational Market
According to the account provided for this history, Evan Creek Farms in Oregon became the first cultivation operation to bring Toad Venom into the recreational market.
That milestone helped move the strain beyond private hunts, legacy circles & cultivation partnerships and into a regulated consumer market.
California Makes It Explode
Oklahoma helped prove the cut, but California accelerated the hype.
The Hash Tribe helped shape the rollout & branding. Kush Klinik pushed the wave further, while Big Smoke Bagz moved product through legacy distribution.
The recognizable green emoji bag became closely tied to the strain’s rise.
Why the Expressions Vary
Part of Toad Venom’s range comes from the selected Sin Mint Cookie × Zkittlez-derived male, rather than a generic Sin Mint line.
Different expressions have shown candy-forward notes, purple phenotypes & noticeably different visual characteristics.
That variation also helps explain why later versions and crosses carrying the Toad Venom name do not always look or smoke exactly alike.
Legacy
Toad Venom was never the work of one person.
Sin City Seeds supplied the genetic lane. Ronin Seeds, West Coast Connoisseurs, 805 Has Fire & Cannapy Builders drove the breeding work. Derrick Grows Fire & Green Dragon helped identify the keeper. Evan Creek Farms brought it into the recreational market according to the account provided, while The Hash Tribe, Kush Klinik, Big Smoke Bagz, The Firm and others helped carry the cut into wider circulation.
Today, growers want to run Toad Venom, breeders want to cross it & different groups continue renaming or reinterpreting versions of the line.
That is the point where a strain begins moving beyond a single hype cycle. Toad Venom became a genetic lane, a recognizable name & the foundation of a larger era.
