How a Dutch grower moved from coffeeshop culture and internet forums into OG, Chem & Sour breeding, building one of Europe’s strongest bridges to modern American gas genetics.
1996: Dutch Roots
Karma Genetics entered the Dutch cannabis scene in 1996, first through a coffeeshop and later by working in a grow shop.
At the time, strains such as White Widow, Citral, Super Silver Haze and Northern Lights crosses dominated many menus.
Karma began popping Dutch seed stock and hunting for flavors he felt coffeeshops were missing.
1998: The First Crosses
By 1998, Karma had started breeding with regular seeds.
His selections prioritized flavor, effect, resin & character rather than easy cultivation or perfectly structured plants.
The work was aimed primarily at smokers and home growers. Commercial convenience was not the main goal.
The Forum Network
The early cannabis forums expanded Karma’s world far beyond the Netherlands.
Overgrow gave him his first international circle, while ICMag developed into a broader trading network for seeds, clones and information.
Through those communities, genetics and cultivation knowledge moved between Europe, Morocco, Nepal, Spain & the United States.
The forums became both a classroom and a distribution network.
2008: The Cup Breakthrough
Recognition at the 2008 ICMag 420 Cup became an important turning point.
According to Karma’s account, another grower asked why he was not already selling seeds.
Early Jack Herer hybrids helped open that door, but his breeding direction soon moved increasingly toward gas, Chem & OG genetics.
White OG
One of the strains that established Karma internationally was White OG, a cross of The White × Triple Kush.
White OG placed 3rd in the Indica category at the 2010 High Times Cannabis Cup.
White OG V2.0 followed with competition wins in Spain in 2014 & 2015, strengthening Karma’s reputation as a European breeder working successfully with American-style OG genetics.
The Biker Kush Backbone
Karma has described Biker Kush as one of the breakthrough projects of his career.
Built from an HA-OG backcross, Biker Kush became an important breeding backbone throughout the Karma Genetics catalog.
Its male was used behind strains including Road Dawg, Sour Power OG, Hayabusa OG and numerous other Kush projects.
Rather than becoming important through one release alone, Biker Kush became valuable because of what it could build.
Headbanger
Headbanger combined Karma’s Sour Diesel K.G. cut × Biker Kush V1.
The strain placed 3rd Sativa at the 2013 High Times Cannabis Cup.
In 2015, Headbanger won 1st overall at the Secret Cup Barcelona and placed 2nd Sativa at the IC420 Growers Cup.
Those results helped establish Headbanger as one of Karma’s defining combinations of Sour Diesel and Kush genetics.
The American Years
After Colorado legalized recreational cannabis, Karma spent years working within Denver’s legal cannabis scene.
From 2016 through 2020, he also worked with groups in Los Angeles.
Those years deepened his access to and experience with Chem, Sour & OG material, genetics already central to the direction his breeding had taken.
The Dutch Legal Chapter
Karma later brought his genetics and cultivation experience into the Netherlands’ regulated coffeeshop experiment.
His role expanded beyond breeding into advising on plant training, cultivation, manufacturing & post-harvest systems.
It marked a different stage of the same career: knowledge developed through underground growing, forums and international breeding being applied inside a regulated Dutch system.
Legacy
Karma Genetics became a bridge between Dutch breeding culture and modern American gas genetics.
White OG, Biker Kush, Karma’s OG, Headbanger and the A5 projects carried that influence across multiple eras of his work.
The foundation remained consistent from his earliest selections onward: flavor, effect, resin & character came first.
The reputation followed.
