Dogbud Before Kush. Before Diesel. There Was Chem.

Roots on Tour (1991)

At a Grateful Dead show in Deer Creek, Indiana, 18-year-old Greg Krzanowski—soon to be known as Chemdog—bought a quarter-ounce of skunky Colorado bud from two Deadheads: Joe B and P-Bud. The nose was unforgettable. Loud. Gassy. Pure funk.

13 Seeds That Changed Everything

Greg mailed $500 for an ounce to his Massachusetts home. Inside the bag: 13 seeds—bagseed bombs that would go on to shape modern cannabis genetics.

The First Indoor Run

Later that fall, under a 600-watt HPS in a passive hydro setup from Worm’s Way, Greg popped the first beans. One hit, and it was clear—this was the same skunked-out fuel he got at Deer Creek.

Chem Lineage Begins

From those seeds came a new family:
Chem 91. Chem D. Chem ’04. Chem’s Sister.
They became building blocks for strains like OG Kush, Sour Diesel, Stardawg, and dozens more.

From Outlaw to Icon

Through the ’90s and early 2000s, Greg was a top outlaw grower in New England. His flower was legend. His name was whispered. His cuts were gospel.

Legal Full Circle

Today, Greg runs cultivation at Canna Provisions Group in Sheffield, MA. Alongside John “Greenfingaz” G, he grows legacy Chem strains legally—after 30 years in the game.

Smash Hits Cannabis

His new brand, Smash Hits, is the only legal source of Chemdog-grown Chemdog. The original Chem 91 mother—still alive, still in rotation—anchors the lineup.

Chem’s Place in History

Chemdog sits on every “best strains” list—High Times, Leafly, you name it. Diesel-funked, throat-grabbing, and still setting the bar three decades later.

From Lot Weed to Legal Legacy

Dogbud to Chem 91. Show lot to dispensary shelf. One chance encounter bloomed into the backbone of modern cannabis.
