Titanium Era Tension
By 2012, the dab scene was deep in the titanium age. Domeless nails and propane torches ruled, but precision didn’t. Each hit was a gamble—too hot, too cold, or scorched beyond flavor. Consistency was the missing piece. That’s when Highly Educated began asking the question that would change the ritual forever: what if the nail stayed hot on its own?
Engineering the Spark
Through late 2012 and early 2013, TaskRok, founder of Highly Educated, and machinist Dave Jensen began wiring PID controllers and custom heating coils inside their titanium workshop. Photos from January 2013 show control panels lined with glowing red and green switches, rows of wired units tagged #highlyeducated. After three sleepless nights, the first batch of matte-black boxes rolled out, each one stamped with the same name: Highly Educated.
Vegas Unveiling
February 2013, American Glass Expo, Las Vegas—TaskRok unveiled the prototype to the public. Word spread instantly: “I guess there’s a line for e-nails.” A hallway of dabbers waited to hit the world’s first torchless setup. Within hours, “E-Nail” wasn’t a concept—it was a movement.
The Innovation
The e-nail fused industrial heat control with titanium precision. It held temperatures steady at 600°F, transforming dabbing from guesswork into science. For the first time, users could tune flavor and safety—bridging the gap between DIY extraction culture and the dawn of dab technology.
The D-Nail Confusion
Months later, a new name surfaced—D-Nail—close enough to confuse forums and feed early myths. But the record remains clear: the first electric dab nail, the name “E-Nail,” and its public debut at AGE 2013 all trace directly to TaskRok and Highly Educated.
Impact and Legacy
The e-nail made dabbing repeatable, measurable, and safer. It triggered an arms race in temperature control—SiC inserts, quartz coils, digital displays—all chasing Highly Educated’s blueprint. Every coil-driven rig and “set-and-forget” dab today carries that DNA.
Blueprint for the Future
By 2018, Puffco’s Peak miniaturized the concept, turning TaskRok’s bench-top innovation into a handheld revolution. From desk coils to pocket rigs, the lineage is unbroken. The e-nail didn’t just replace the torch—it redefined how the culture consumes.
Every modern dab rig owes its hum to that Vegas night.
The E-Nail wasn’t just an invention—it was evolution made electric.
