LA Threads to Loud Packs
Before launching cannabis, Jason and Mandee established Broken Promises in 2017 out of Los Angeles a streetwear brand driven by emotion and built around authenticity. Their collections dropped weekly through Zumiez and Dolls Kill, quickly building a cult following. The phrase “Fueled by Emotions” wasn’t a tagline but a statement of purpose that defined their creative DNA.
Design DNA
Mandee stood out as one of the few women leading in the male-dominated streetwear industry, with prior experience at Vans and New Era. Jason brought expertise in retail operations and international sales. Together, they transformed Broken Promises into a brand rooted in heartbreak, rebellion, and self-expression. Those same creative foundations became the blueprint for their evolution into Smoken Promises.
2024: The Leap into Cannabis
In 2024, Jason and Mandee expanded their emotional storytelling into cannabis through Smoken Promises a brand built on the concept of “an emotional high.” Rather than promoting THC percentages or hype strains, they focused on mood-driven curation. Each strain was connected to a specific emotion and paired with a playlist, offering a multi-sensory experience that blended music, feeling, and flower.
Connected × Alien Labs Collaboration
To ensure the flower matched the brand’s emotional concept, Mandee collaborated with Connected Cannabis Co. and Alien Labs, two of California’s most respected indoor cultivators. Together, they selected phenotypes that met Smoken Promises’ aesthetic and experiential standards. A soft launch took place in late 2024 across Connected’s flagship stores in San Francisco, Stockton, and Sacramento, introducing the brand to California’s discerning consumers.
The Official Drop
In February 2025, Connected officially launched Smoken Promises statewide, distributing across more than 175 dispensaries. The collaboration marked the first true streetwear–cannabis crossover under Connected’s national expansion strategy, merging fashion credibility with cultivation excellence.
Mood Over Metrics
Strains such as Midnight Lemonade, Chem Brûlée, Violet Dreamsicle, and Garlic Ghost represented different moods rather than just genetics. Each cultivar was developed for its sensory profile, not its lab score. The line featured pre-rolls and eighths, with quarter-ounce jars scheduled for later release. Smoken Promises was positioned as a “top-shelf program at a value tier,” curating through emotion and taste rather than potency.
When Worlds Collide
On April 20, Broken Promises and Smoken Promises united for a capsule collection that blurred the lines between fashion and cannabis. The release included apparel, accessories, and flower packaged together, creating a cohesive drop that allowed fans to experience both brands as one artistic statement.
CA to AZ and Beyond
With Connected’s multistate infrastructure, Smoken Promises expanded into Arizona, producing localized indoor batches that maintained the same level of quality and creativity. The move positioned Smoken Promises as a lifestyle brand with national reach, bringing emotional storytelling and premium flower to new markets.
Identity and Influence
Smoken Promises demonstrated that cannabis branding can be deeply personal and emotionally resonant. By merging the authenticity of streetwear with the craftsmanship of California’s finest cultivators, Jason and Mandee proved that cannabis can communicate narrative, mood, and connection. From retail racks to dispensary menus, Smoken Promises turned every hit into an emotional statement—an experience as expressive as the clothes that started it all.
