German Roots, Hemp Hustle
In the 1990s, Johann Anderson lived Germany’s hemp underground—illustrating for Hanfblatt and Grow!, vending edibles at festivals, and later opening a headshop. His media instincts led him to launch Exzessiv TV, one of Europe’s earliest cannabis video platforms. Each role built his understanding of both cannabis culture and the information gaps that divided it.
Building the Map
In 2007, Anderson launched SeedFinder.eu, one of the first comprehensive online genetics databases. It became a digital Rosetta Stone for growers, breeders, and historians alike—archiving strain lineages, breeder connections, grow diaries, and regional climate data. The platform was community-fed yet rigorously verified, turning what had once been oral tradition into structured genetic record.
The Archive
By 2023, SeedFinder.eu listed around 36,000 strains from nearly 2,000 breeders, complete with pedigrees, clone-only notations, and Cannabis Cup records. More than a search engine, it served as the living memory of the genetic era—documenting the rise of Gelato, Zkittlez, and Cookies before marketing could distort their histories.
Canary Pivot
In the early 2010s, Anderson relocated to Tenerife in the Canary Islands. There, he joined the community cannabis club movement as secretary and later chair of ACMTHC in Playa de las Américas. The cooperative model allowed him to merge compliance with culture, creating a balance between grassroots authenticity and regulated access.
Cups, Not Clout
Beyond archiving, Anderson competed—and won. His teams earned over seven first- and second-place awards for edibles and more than fifteen cups for flower, spanning regional and European competitions. His credibility extended from database pages to physical jars.
Edible Alchemy
As an edibles consultant, Anderson pushed the science forward—developing instant-acting, water-compatible, and baking-stable formulations. His innovative streak led to patents for joint-shaped edible confections, merging novelty with pharmacological precision.
420Base Rising
After stepping back from SeedFinder, Anderson founded 420Base—a new platform designed as an open hub for makers, processors, and extractors. It catalogs techniques, equipment, and best practices, emphasizing shared innovation over proprietary secrecy. Its Calc-o-Lator dosing tool became the project’s first cornerstone, with more utilities now in development.
Up-Scales.com
Anderson also designed Up-Scales, the first smart scale built specifically for cannabis and edibles. Developed entirely in-house, it features dosing calculators, unit conversions, and fractional precision for eighth-ounce measurements. He is currently seeking a partner to bring it to commercial production.
Passing the Torch
On February 1, 2023, after sixteen years of maintaining the world’s most trusted strain database, Anderson formally stepped away from SeedFinder.eu. His focus now lies in building the next layer of cannabis infrastructure—one that connects craft with data, and legacy knowledge with digital accessibility.

From sketching comics in Berlin to building strain archives and chairing Canary Island clubs, Johann Anderson’s influence reaches across continents and decades. SeedFinder preserved cannabis genetics; 420Base empowers its makers. Through every project, his mission stays constant—record the culture before it fades, and give it tools to grow smarter.
