LA KALADA: BARCELONA’S OG CANNABIS CLUB

Founded in 2012

La Kalada was created by Italian reggae artist Jahki Revi and became one of the earliest pioneers of Spain’s cannabis social club model. The name itself comes from “dame una kalada” (“give me a hit”), capturing its roots in community and shared culture. From the beginning, the club blended elite flower with art, music, and social connection, quickly becoming a landmark in Barcelona’s cannabis movement.

Built on Reggae and Roots

Revi’s background in reggae and music directly shaped the ethos of La Kalada. The space was more than a smoking lounge—it functioned as a hybrid studio, sanctuary, and cultural hub. With graffiti-covered walls, live vinyl sets, arcade machines, and an ever-changing cast of artists, La Kalada evolved into a movement that fused cannabis with global creative expression.

Bobby Kalada and the Craft

Co-founder Bobby Kalada, an Italian activist turned cultivation expert in Barcelona, established La Kalada’s reputation for elite flower and extraction. His legacy is cemented by accolades in respected competitions like Legends of Hashish and Dabadoo, where his work stood out for purity, flavor, and artisanal craft. Together with Revi, he helped position La Kalada as a cornerstone in the international hash community.

Hash Cups and High Honors

La Kalada’s reputation extended far beyond Spain. The club’s jars became highly sought after by connoisseurs chasing authentic flavor and terpene profiles. From winning the Élite Cup and Secret Cup Bizkaia to appearances at ACMF and even California’s Emerald Cup, La Kalada’s accolades made it synonymous with quality and innovation in global hash culture.

A Legal Tightrope

Like all Barcelona cannabis clubs, La Kalada exists in a legal grey zone. The city government, under Mayor Collboni, reaffirmed its intention in 2023 to close down social clubs, placing their future under constant uncertainty. Raids carried out just days before Spannabis 2024 underscored how fragile the scene remains, highlighting the tension between culture and compliance.

Global Moves

La Kalada has not remained confined to Spain. Expansion projects now include a cannabis resort in Koh Samui, Thailand, featuring both a dispensary and an Italian kitchen. This move reflects the club’s ambition to export its unique blend of cannabis, culture, and lifestyle to international audiences.

More Than a Club—Community

At its core, La Kalada is built on books, conversations, rolled joints, and roots reggae. It has provided not just a safe space for consumption, but a center of education, resistance, and cultural preservation. During times of political crackdown, La Kalada has doubled as a rallying point for advocacy and the defense of cannabis rights.

Content, Merch, and Imprint

Beyond cultivation and consumption, La Kalada has built a cultural imprint. From Jahki Revi’s “Remember My Marijuana” music video to podcasts, merchandise, and collaborations with top extraction artists, La Kalada extends its reach into lifestyle branding. It operates as both a physical club and a broader cultural entity.

Still Blazing in 2025

Today, La Kalada remains at the forefront of cannabis culture with standout strains like Zombie Kush, Sunset Sherb Dolato, and Clementine Kush. Despite ongoing regulatory threats, the club continues to thrive and evolve. With global recognition and expansion in progress, La Kalada’s flame burns brighter than ever, carrying Barcelona’s cannabis culture to the world.
